Complete video surveillance and security systems come with everything needed for a do it yourself surveillance system. Great for home, business, law enforcement, schools etc.

CCTV

Closed circuit television (CCTV) is a privately monitored system primarily used for security and surveillance purposes. Relying on the strategic placement of cameras and the consistent observation of its input to monitors, CCTV is called “closed circuit” because the access is limited to those meant to see it. The cameras and the monitors or video recorders communicate over private coaxial cable or wireless communication links.

CCTV Options Including Wireless Closed Circuit TV

Also known as video surveillance, closed circuit television is different from broadcast television in that the signal is transmitted only to a specified place and on a limited set of screens or monitors, whereas broadcast television is openly transmitted to many destinations. While different, broadcast and closed circuit may share similar builds, utilizing point-to-point links (P2P), point to multipoint, or even mesh wireless links.

Old-school closed circuit television was marked by low-res, tiny, black and white screens with, void of interactive capability. CCTV depended heavily on human monitoring at first because recording was highly inefficient. Even when video recording was used, collecting tapes quickly became a cumbersome task. These days, CCTV monitors are high resolution, color and have interactive capabilities like zooming and tracking. Some CCTV systems even include talk features that allow you to speak to those within range of the system. Plus, with the use of high capacity and cloud storage, closed circuit television recordings are able to be saved in a much more efficient manner.

Many Uses for Closed Circuit Cameras

Used in a variety of situations, CCTV is gaining popularity in law enforcement. From traffic observation to automated ticketing and high-crime neighborhood observation, the use of closed circuit television is becoming so commonplace that it has been met with concern and controversy. On one hand, CCTV may infringe on the privacy of people in public settings, but on the other hand, having access to closed circuit television helps law enforcement do their jobs and capture suspects more efficiently.

Beyond use in law enforcement, CCTV has many other great uses. Closed circuit TV can be used to help businesses maintain perimeter security or oversee hazardous locations such as toxic industrial environments where a human would be put at high risk. Other instances where CCTV is well utilized is in mental institutions and prisons to observe the behavior of patients’ and inmates’ behavior. It can also be used in situations where a visual record of activity is necessary to maintain proper security or levels of access, such as casinos, airports, banks or diamond sorting or cutting operation.

Closed circuit television is also useful in transportation. Beyond automatic ticketing, CCTV is commonplace on buses, trains, trollies, and other public transportation for the sake of safety and monitoring the behavior of both the passengers and the bus or train operator.
